Timber harvesting on CLUDOLICUM 9

The proposed project consists of commercial timber harvesting on Indian Reserve No. 9 (IR#9), covering an area of approximately 197 hectares. The harvesting will be conducted using a partial cutting silviculture system, specifically a "thin-from-below" approach, with an estimated removal of approximately 50% of the pre-harvest stand volume.

The primary objective of the project is to improve forest stand conditions by reducing stand density, removing suppressed and lower-vigor trees, and promoting the growth of residual, higher-quality trees. This approach is intended to enhance overall forest health, increase stand productivity, and reduce susceptibility to wildfire by lowering fuel loads and improving stand structure.

Harvesting activities will be carried out using standard forestry practices, including the development and use of access roads where required. Activities will be implemented in accordance with applicable federal requirements and best management practices. Measures will be applied to avoid or minimize potential adverse effects on the environment, including the protection of soils, watercourses, wetlands, fish and fish habitat, wildlife habitat, and any identified species at risk and their critical habitat.
