Gwa'sala-‘Nakwaxda'xw Nations – Tsulquate Subdivision

The proposed Village Subdivision Project (the Project) is located on Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations (GNN) reserve lands, situated within the northern portion of the existing Tsulquate IR4 community near Port Hardy, British Columbia. The subdivision site is located at the northern portion of Tsulquate IR4, directly adjacent to the existing community.

 

The Village Subdivision Project consists of the following project components:

 

• Creation of approximately 100 development lots.

• Installation of roads and utility servicing.

• Installation of on-site stormwater management.

• Construction of environmental enhancements.


Physical activities that will be involved in construction include:

 

• Mobilization of equipment and materials to site.

• Clearing and grubbing of vegetation within the new subdivision area.

• Blasting to remove bedrock and large rocks.

• Grading of new road alignments.

• Installation of underground and above ground utilities.

• Placement of road base.

• Construction of curbs and sidewalks and paving of roads.

• Construction of on-site stormwater management features.

• Site restoration and planting.

• Demobilization of equipment, waste, and unused materials from site.

Latest update

April 6, 2026 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) are considering comments received to help inform their determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
